St. Joseph of Cupertino, our patron
Saint Joseph of Cupertino (1603-1663) is a Catholic saint and the patron saint of aviators, astronauts, and students. He is known for his levitation abilities and for being able to answer questions without prior knowledge.
Born in the village of Cupertino, Italy, on June 17, 1603, Saint Joseph was the son of a poor carpenter. From a young age, he was known for his deep devotion to God and his ability to perform miracles. Despite his poverty, he was able to attend school and later joined the Conventual Franciscans.
During his time as a Franciscan friar, Saint Joseph gained a reputation for his levitation abilities, which were said to occur during times of deep prayer and ecstasy. He was also known for being able to answer questions without prior knowledge and for having visions of the future.
Despite his abilities, Saint Joseph's life was not without struggles. He was often misunderstood and mistreated by his fellow friars and was even imprisoned for several years on suspicion of heresy. However, his devotion to God never wavered, and he continued to perform miracles and inspire others with his faith.
Saint Joseph of Cupertino died on September 18th, 1663, and was canonized by Pope Clement XIII on July 16th, 1767. His feast day is celebrated on September 18th, and he is also honored on the liturgical calendar of the Franciscan order on August 17th.
It has been said that Saint Joseph was not able to read or write, but he was able to answer questions on a wide range of subjects with great accuracy. He was also said to have had a premonition of his own death, which came true.
In conclusion, Saint Joseph of Cupertino is an inspiration to many for his deep devotion to God, his ability to perform miracles, and his unwavering faith in the face of adversity.
